GCSE changes
The changes to GCSE do not for the time being affect Italian, but it is important that those who teach italian are aware of them. We only know of one school that teaches just Italian at GCSE, so most will be well aware of the practical aspects of the new papers.
However, there must be some concern that grade comparability with French, German or Spanish may be compromised or cause confusion. |
Italian GCSE Results 2022
Following widespread disquiet about the results of exams sat in 2022, a letter was sent to Ofqual on 1st December 2022 asking them to review the marking and grading of Italian GCSE exams last summer. This letter was supported by many schools and signed inter alia, by the chairs of The University Council of Modern Languages (UCML), The Society for Italian Studies (SIS), the Association for the Study of Modern Italy (ASMI) and the Indepependent Schools Modern Languages Association (ISMLA). A copy of the letter can be obtained by emailing teachitalianuk@gmail.com. We will post news of any progress here as and when we hear back.
The letter was sent at the beginning of December. We received a response which did not really acknowledge any problem at their end. Again, if you want to see the letter, just email teachitalianuk@gmail.com |
